There are many varieties of grasshoppers but they look very much alike .They all have strong jaws, three pairs of legs, and usually have two pairs of wings .The first pair of wing is leathery and straight, while the second pair is membranous and fold underneath the first pair .The hind pair of legs, which are used for jumping are usually long and well developed.

The female grasshopper has an organ for laying eggs at the tip of her abdomen .This organ is called an ovipositor Katydids have long sword-shaped ovipositors. Some locusts poke holes in the ground with their eggs there, and cover them with a gunny substance.

HOW WAS LIGHT YEAR DISCOVERED

How was the light year discovered?

This was done by a Danfish astronomer named Olaus Roemer in 1676.He noticed that the eclipses of one of the moons of Jupiter Kept coming later and later as the earth moved in its orbit to the opposite side of the sun from that occupied by eclipses came on schedule again’ The difference in time added up to nearly 17 minutes. This could mean only that it takes that length of time for light to travel the diameter of the earth’orbit. This distance was known to be nearly 186000000miles.Siiiince it took light about 10000 seconds [nearly 17 minutes] to go this distance, it meant that the speed of light is about 186000 miles/seconds.
